The San Diego Chapter of Women in Aviation International (WAI) strives to open the skies to the next generation of aviators, engineers, and industry leaders.

Signature was the largest donor of our Spring Gala 2026, which honored Martha King and the accomplishments of our members. Signature has also made major contributions to three scholarships to be awarded to chapter members in 2026.

John and martha king
Over 50+ years, King Schools has delivered many millions of courses to pilots in training. Through intimate video instruction, John and Martha King have taught more pilots than anyone in the history of aviation. Their clear, simple, and fun teaching have made aviation knowledge more accessible to pilots all around the world.
In 1994, John and Martha became the first and only couple to both hold every category and class of FAA rating on their pilot and instructor certificates. Martha is the only woman to achieve this complete ratings sweep. They have received Aviation Educators of the Year, Cliff Henderson Award of Achievement, Excellence in Pilot Training, and 100 Most Influential Women in Aviation, among other awards.
In May 2026, we were honored and humbled to welcome special guests John and Martha King at our Spring Gala. Throughout the evening, we highlighted and celebrated Martha’s accomplishments, a true pioneer and an role model to us all. Martha’s contributions to aviation go far beyond teaching a world-renowned ground school– she serves as a reminder for girls and women everywhere that no dream is too big. The Kings have made generous contributions to our chapter, and created scholarships to help pilots toward their goals.
